Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare

The objective of this qualification is to support the role of managers of residential childcare settings.

This qualification is the required qualification for managers of residential childcare settings.

This is a combined knowledge and competency qualification and must be undertaken by individuals

who are working, volunteering or on practical placement as managers within the residential

childcare sector. Learners undertaking this qualification will be managing services for children and

young people from birth to 25 years of age. This extended age range takes into account the

entitlements for children and young people with complex disabilities and conditions.

This qualification includes mandatory core knowledge relating to the development of children and

young people, and understanding the provision of support for children and young people who are

vulnerable and disadvantaged. It also includes mandatory core skills relating to leading and

managing a team, safeguarding and protecting children and young people, communication and

information management, managing risk, leading and managing group living and leading a service

to support children and young people who have experienced harm or abuse.

To complete the Highfield Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare

(England) (RQF), learners must complete the following:

• all units contained within the mandatory group

• a minimum of 3 units from optional group A

Unit 11: Lead Practice In Safe Use Of Digital, Internet And Mobile Technology With Children And Young People

Unit 12: Lead Practice To Promote The Rights, Diversity And Equality Of Children And Young People In Residential Childcare

Unit 14: Implement A Positive Relationship Policy In Residential Childcare

To register on to this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry

requirements:

• Be working as a manager (paid/voluntary) in a suitable role (as outlined above) within the

residential childcare sector.

• Be 19+ years of age

This qualification is assessed through completion of a portfolio of evidence
